Strathcona Science Provincial Park

This is a renowned provincial park in Alberta, situated near Edmonton and Sherwood Park just west of Anthony Henday Drive and south of Yellowhead Highway.

This area has been used for thousands of years as the location for an annual aboriginal camp due to its location near the river for transportation and trade, and near the hillside of the river valley which offered great opportunities for hunting bison. The park was preserved the by the local government against impending industrialization. During 1978 up to 1980, the area has been a site for a number of archeological excavations.

The park has a number of uninhabited interpretative buildings developed by the government of Alberta during 1980, however, today only rubbles remain. What remains of the park’s history as a public science center includes structures such as a boardwalk leading to the archeological site, tiled triangular obelisks and a number of interpretative plaques. The place is safe but overgrown, so visitors should dress appropriately.
